351 Zara Rd, Zara, NSW 2484
A private valley retreat in the rare yet internationally-recognized Subtropical Cloud Forest is nestled on the caldera of an ancient volcano with views to Springbrook Escarpment (home to the World’s oldest trees of some 10,000 years).
Zara Springs looks north to Bald Mountain and south to Wollumbin (Mt Warning). Both are Women’s Dreaming Sites.
An abundance of water gives Zara Springs its name. There is a large catchment area adding pure mountain rainwater to a creek which meanders along the valley floor before flowing into 2 lakes, a downstream wetlands and ultimately under Zara Rd tipping into Jacksons Creek on its way to the coast.

Sound good?
It is a magic place where you can “Feel the Vibe” – from the traditional Carers for Country to the sweet air and pure rainwater to drink, the healing energy from the earth to the brightest star-show on those super-clear nights.
Amazing.
Unfortunately, my plans have had to change.
The intention was to expand the Manuka Honey tree plantation in our top paddock and add lots of indigenous citrus to the existing lemon, lime and mandarin orchard.
Some regeneration of cleared areas downhill from the existing forested ridges has started and we even harvested our first Davidson plums a few months back. There are wild foods in our forest and some could be semi-commercially picked with a little plant selection and management.
Cutting-grown native fruit trees are being produced in a neighbouring nursery so the next stage is approaching.
Several sources of grant funds are becoming available and we even received an offer of 4,000 trees from https://reforestnow.org to kick off a larger planting in the wind.
What’s changed?
My factory in Kingsgrove in Sydney relies on some key personnel, one of whom has been with me for 14 years. He is moving to Melbourne for family reasons and while it is totally understandable and we all need to prioritize our non-work commitments, it has meant that I need to move back to Sydney, at least for the next 6 to 12 months.
In order to do this, we have to sell the farm and buy in Sydney before venturing back to the bush in late 2024 or early 2025.
So…
Are you interested in an amazing opportunity?
Potentially, we work together and continue to establish a wild food plantation that would be mixed into the native vegetation as an example of Enrichland Polyculture™. Revegetation with commercial wild food species that would be sold to my company, Australian Functional Ingredients.
The astute Purchaser could obviously have no interest in wild foods and choose to go it alone for their own reasons. That’s fine too.
I expect they would still choose to preserve the koala habitat on both ridges that top the valley slopes and provide a wildlife corridor connecting 3 wilderness reserves.
They would continue to regenerate this natural, Gondwana Rainforest expanding the area and enhancing more wilderness walks or pursue wild food plantations (Sustainable Farming) or Eco Tourism.
Carbon credits as well as public support through the Invest In Farmers project (https://iif.today) are an opportunity too.
An off-grid, high quality home we call the Top House which looks down the valley to the yurt (a Tardis-like structure) which seems larger on the inside than from the outside. It is perfect for meetings, meditation, movie-nights or farm planning days for regenerators/workers/visitors/neighbours.
Further down the valley and past the lakes is the Lakehouse which is labelled on the floor plan as the reception/studio/storage facility.
If the primary production rating and farming are maintained then the ‘Reception/studio’ can accommodate up to 6 people on Farmstay and Farm Experience events.
Therefore, the property becomes income-generating as soon as you move in.
Zara Springs could be an ideal wedding venue, a meditation or healing centre or a place where Indigenous youths could discover Country in the fullest sense.
Alternatively, the 3 structures on this property would make ideal Farm stay rentals returning up to $250,000pa or more depending on the number of days rented and which buildings are on offer. There is significant demand for more accommodation in the area from other business venues and we have been approached often to accommodate the flow-over.
Alternatively, for an extended (farming) family, the 3 dwellings could be appropriately allocated and even aged parent carers could be accommodated.
Zara Springs is ideally located between Chillingham and Tyalgum with Byron Bay only 68km (less than an hour) away & the Gold Coast International Airport 52km (50 mins) away. The most visited National Park in Australia (Natural Bridge NP) is only 25 mins north-east.
